The American ambassador, Yuri Kim, has called it disappointing for the justice system, the release from prison of the former Minister of the Interior, Saimir Tahiri, and leaving him under the security measure of "house arrest".
Through a post on social networks, Kim stated that these methods used by Albanian justice are not suitable for a NATO country that aspires to integrate into the European Union.
According to Kim, there will be consequences for those judges who help the "powerful".
"Very disappointing to see that the old ways of impunity and privilege for some continue in the justice system. These old ways are not suitable for a NATO ally and EU aspirants and they must be firmly rejected. The US considers corruption to be a fundamental national security threat. Those who engage in giving or accepting threats and inducements — for example, to help powerful friends — must understand that their actions will have consequences," Kim wrote on Twitter.
