"Cases should be treated as a violent person", the well-known psychiatrist talks about crimes in the family: They must be diagnosed

A serious incident was reported 2 days ago in Kavaja where a 35-year-old man caused the death of his mother. An event which was initially reported as a natural death, while the police found that the deceased died as a result of physical violence by her son.

The 35-year-old suffered from mental illness.

But are crimes in the family becoming a phenomenon in our society and how can we cure them?

Invited to a TV show, psychiatrist Pashko Maksuti said that individuals with mental health problems are encountered in every community, but according to him, the rehabilitation structure of this part of society is important.

The psychiatrist says that it is precisely the family that bears the weight of this part of society, but since this has also been reduced recently, it leads to these dramas.

For Maksut, that structured system is missing so that people who cannot manage their lives are offered training, or are followed as cases.

"All societies, including the Albanian community, have all people, including those with psychiatric problems. In these cases, the phenomenon of their treatment should be seen, which in our society is through medicine.

But, on the other hand, we have not made rehabilitation structures for this part of society. The family is one that has dealt with their people who have had mental health problems.

As it should be, the family is reduced and a small number of family members are taken for their treatment, mainly the mothers, who are left alone due to their age. And that layer because of the impossibility of managing their lives leads to these dramas. In the event that they are diagnosed and family members cannot diagnose the degree and this can lead to crime.

Even the system itself is not structured to enable therapy, treatment or even survival for those people who cannot manage themselves, that is to follow such cases", said the psychiatrist.

The psychiatrist suggests that every case be treated as a person who perpetrates violence, that is, to be denounced and then decisions are made for psycho-legal assessments, where in the case of mental health, he is punished with forced treatment in a psychiatric hospital.
