"The hardest part will be in the winter"/ Energy crisis, the expert

Energy expert Lorenc Gordani spoke today about energy issues, stressing that the projections speak of problems in the winter period.

Gordani said that the situation in Kosovo should serve as an alarm bell for Albania, adding that in our country there is no access to the market but routine continuity, which according to him should worry and hit us. Gordani pointed out that there are three possible solutions for the situation, among which restrictions are not excluded.

"The current situation, as every year in Albania, in this period becomes critical as far as the water reserve is concerned. The specificity of this year is that no matter how little we buy in imports, it costs much more. Even the recent events that have begun to affect the region, especially Kosovo, an optimal solution is cooperation between countries. Even in this perspective, it is something useful in terms of economic function.

A broader solution and discussion is needed. In the final, solidarity and support should prevail in a sustainable way. At the present moment, since the situation in Kosovo is difficult, it is an aspect that must be shared and can have its own effect. Kosovo will continue to remain in deficit, because this was the case last year as well. Kosovo should serve us as an alarm bell. Reflective measures must be put in place because the crisis does not leave much room for countries".

We have been touched several times if there is a misuse and mismanagement. We can consider it as if we are trying to manage the crisis, but not the energy sector. The sector has remained as it was before. At this moment we must understand the importance and potential that the market offers.

We must know the market, become part of it. KESH must predict how the situation will be in the coming week. We had a cancellation of the tender. On August 6 and 8, we had two purchases. It's unpredictable, I say that kindly. There is no access to the market, but a routine continuity. This should worry us and hit us, how is it possible that today we have the same approach we had", he said.

Gordani said that the most difficult part is the winter, while he also said that energy efficiency programs are missing in his country.

"Many countries have started saving energy, Spain, Germany. We are aware from daily contacts that air conditioners are left all night in the office. We are wasting energy. We see that even the street lights are on during the day. There is an obligation for every public procurement, every money used from the state budget, to go through efficiency criteria.

There are three options, either the subsidy budget will be affected, or there will be an increase in tariffs, or we will lack energy because we will not be able to buy it from imports, and we will be forced to have energy restrictions".
