Gülen's movement, this is who is the organization that the Turkish government calls terrorist and why it is accused by Erdogan

Turkey has long come after supporters of the Hizmet (Turkish for service) movement of cleric Fethullah Gulen, the main rival of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Cleric Gülen gained fame in the 60s as a religious preacher at Friday prayers in Turkey. He proclaims to embrace moderate and tolerant Islam, and his supporters say the movement promotes altruism, work and education. However, some governments see his move as a threat because of the network he has among wealthy businessmen and the influence he wields through educational centers. Erdogan says that Gülen is behind the failed coup d'état on July 15, 2016 in Turkey. Tens of thousands of people have been arrested and many others have left their jobs, after suspicions that they are "Gülenists", or followers of the cleric Gülen. Among those accused as Gülenists are many professors, human rights activists, journalists and officials of the Turkish administration. The rivalry between Erdogan and Gülen has not always existed. In fact, Gülen's movement has been a strong supporter of Erdogan. Gülen, through the media that supported him and his movement, helped the Turkish president's party, the Development and Justice Party, come to power in 2002. However, relations between Erdogan and Gülen broke down, due to, as it has been said, differences in the issue of power sharing and the authoritarian leadership style of the Turkish president. In May 2016, Turkey officially recognized the cleric Gülen's movement as a terrorist group. Erdogan has for a long time accused Gülen and his supporters, that they want to stage a coup. "We will not leave those who divide the nation", Erdogan declared, on the day when Gülen's organization was officially declared a terrorist group in Turkey, a country in which it is known by the acronym FETO. Erdo?an made accusations of a coup d'état against the Gülenists after a corruption scandal in 2013, which involved some of his closest collaborators. The scandal involved allegations that state officials had enriched themselves by using state funds to buy gold from Iran, and to help Tehran avoid international sanctions over its nuclear program. Turkey has repeatedly demanded the extradition of Gülen from the US. After the coup attempt in 2016, Ankara has increased the demands for such an extradition, but official Washington has sought evidence that proves Gülen's involvement in the coup. The latter has repeatedly denied any involvement in this event. The United States has said it does not recognize the Hizmet Movement as a terrorist organization, a move that has soured once-close relations between America and Turkey, bringing them to their lowest point in decades.
