Mayors of municipalities in the north of Kosovo: We will return to work when the situation calms down

The mayor of Zubin Potok, Izmir Zeqiri and the mayor of Zveçan, Ilir Peci, issued a joint statement where they said they will wait for the return of normality to carry out their duties.

Zeqiri and Peci say they are worried about the possibility of the situation escalating.

"We want and are ready to start this work immediately. However, the possibility of the situation escalating remains our greatest concern. The exercise of our duties as Mayors should be done normally, like any other Mayor's, without the need for police protection", the joint statement says.

They have asked for the return of normality, "so that our work also has meaning".

Statement by Izmir Zeqir, Chairman of Zubin Potok and Ilir Peci, Chairman of Zveçan

Today, together, we have responded positively to the invitation for a meeting with the American ambassador, Jeffrey Hovenier and the head of the EU mission in Kosovo, Tomas Szunyog, as well as with the ambassador of the United Kingdom, Nicholas Abbott.

Together we discussed the situation in the municipalities of the northern part of Kosovo, after the recent developments that followed our oath as Mayors of the respective municipalities.

From the day when we announced the candidacies for Mayors of the municipalities of Zveçan and Zubin Potok, until today, our purpose and aim has been clear: to serve all the citizens of our municipalities, without any distinction, right and professionally.
