"The road code in Albania is backward"/ The head of the DPSHTRR gives a strong warning: The drivers on TikTok showed the speed after the accident, we are tracking...

The director of DPSHTRR Blendi Gonxhe, invited to the News24 studio, spoke about the new changes to the road code which were undertaken with the aim of preventing accidents.
According to him, the road code in Albania has fallen behind in time and that in order to make the necessary changes, a lot of work and studies are needed.
Gonxhe said that after the tragic accident near TEG, there was a collective psychosis of young people on TikTok who showed their speeds in the video, who according to him are being identified and tracked.
He further added that the accidents of the last few weeks in the country also occurred due to some problems, such as in the case of Kavaja, where a car fell into the canal on a road without barriers or signs, which according to him is the responsibility of the local authorities.
"We have had a long discussion with our colleagues, we have been discussing changes in parliamentary committees since July. The code is very large and requires more work with studies and predictions for a strong intervention. Our road code is a bit behind the times, it's a bit backward.
We cannot predict what happened in the last weeks. To return to the events of the last few weeks, because they tell a lot. There is a collective psychosis, and there was a backlash from a number of TikTok "heroes" who got excited after the accident and showed the speed in the video. These addresses are being identified and still being tracked, we will go all the way.
The accident that happened in Dibër, the son takes the vehicle of the father who has lost his license, the son without a license takes the vehicle and has an accident and his passenger dies at a young age. Here we have one of the worst role models for a young person, it is the family itself. We continue to the woman in Kavaja who fell into the canal, I don't know which authority covers that passage, there is a lack of responsibility, no one said if there can be a passage over the canal with water without any signs or protection. She was not speeding and exited this barrier-free crossing by falling. Anyone could fall down this road.
Institutional accountability is based on statistics, a thorough investigation and then we take action. We have 33% fewer accidents in the under-25s from 2018. From this point of view, every director would be happy. The victim is videoed on TikTok giving the car a finger in the Ring, here we have an abuse of the laws of physics. It is not a signaling issue from this point of view", he said.
