The massive fire that engulfed the building near the center of Tirana has returned attention to the issue of housing security. In this building where a square meter is sold for over 2000 euros, the question arises as to how safe these buildings are and do they justify the price, which has been increasing for years now.

According to the safety expert, Markel Baballeku, the poor quality of the materials used was one of the key factors that led to the rapid spread of the fire.

He emphasized that the materials used did not isolate the fire but spread it by releasing dangerous gases for the residents.

The expert emphasized that the fire protection law is general and should be further detailed on quantitative parameters.

"The demand for fire protection is one of the most difficult to fulfill. We have expressed them in general terms, but when it comes to quantitative parameters, we have elements that we cannot measure. We lack the technical conditions to present numbers that we made on paper, how it was done during construction and how it was checked at the end", said the expert.
