Damage from worsening weather, central and local authorities meeting with farmers

A few days after the hailstorm that fell in some areas of the Korça district, where it caused great damage to the still-unharvested apple production, the Deputy Minister of Agriculture Arjan Jaupllari, the Prefect of the Korça District Nertil Jole and the head of the municipality of Maliqi Gëzim Topçiu and he Devolli Eduard Duro, held a meeting today with farmers in the village of Z?blak.

The Prefect of the Korca District, Nertil Jole, writes on FB that after learning about the situation of the farmers in the area affected by the hailstorm, he held a meeting with some of them. The concern expressed by them and the information sent by the Regional Agency of Agricultural Extension Korçë, Jole has forwarded to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the National Agency of Civil Protection with the aim of their intervention for evaluation and further treatment. Today's meeting also served this purpose, where government representatives and local officials listened to farmers' concerns.

"Situations like this, caused by the weather, in terms of longer-term policies require new approaches in the application of technologies, equipping farms with anti-hail nets, and ensuring production, for which we have examples in the district as well. While in the short term, the central and local institutions will apply every legal space for the assessment of the situation", writes Jole.
