Are Albanian tomatoes within the parameters allowed for consumption? AKU reacts

Today, the Food and Veterinary Agency has received the results of tomato samples originating from Albania, sent to a contracted laboratory, which performed the tests in an accredited laboratory in Bulgaria.

All samples have resulted within the limits according to EU regulation No. 369/2005 r. That is, the presence of chemical contaminants is within the norms or limits which are allowed for consumption and do not pose a risk. The samples were tested for all types of pesticides.

In addition to the regular official control based on a risk-based plan, after the publication of information about suspected pesticide residues in tomatoes. AUV, in addition to the samples tested in local laboratories, we also sent samples abroad for testing with confirmatory methods, which remove doubts about the presence of pesticides above the permitted rates.

There have never been official communications from the EU RASFF mechanism regarding these doubts. Regular controls will continue on all cargoes according to the plan, we have close cooperation with the Albanian Food Authority.

In real time we exchange information about all food products that are traded between the two countries. Consumers should feel confident about products that are controlled by AUV. We always take all actions to remove any doubt that arises.
