39.6 degrees Celsius, the record of extreme temperatures is broken, experts are alarmed: It is the worst heat wave in the history of the region

Siberia is experiencing an unprecedented heat wave, breaking records for high temperatures in many parts of it in early June, which is raising the concern of experts.

Last Saturday, temperatures reached 37.9 degrees Celsius in Yalturovosk, its hottest day on record, according to climatologist Maximiliano Herrera, who tracks extreme temperatures around the globe.

Since then, a number of temperature records have been set in Siberia. Several all-time heat records were broken on Wednesday, including Baevo, which reached 39.6 degrees Celsius, and Barnaul, which reached 38.5 degrees Celsius.

"It's the worst heat wave in the region's history," Herrera tweeted Wednesday.

The extreme heat is likely to make the fires worse. Siberia, along with Canada, has also faced large and intense fires.

It's not just Siberia that has seen record heat this week. It is spread throughout Central Asia. In early April, Turkmenistan recorded temperatures of 42 degrees Celsius, which was "a world record for that latitude," Herrera said.

On Wednesday, temperatures of more than 45 degrees Celsius were recorded in China, 43 degrees Celsius in Uzbekistan and 41 degrees Celsius in Kazakhstan.
