Unlike baklava, which is officially known as a holiday cake whether religious or New Year, sugarcane is one of those cakes you can make at any time. Today we bring you the Turkish version of it. Trust us, you will lick your fingers when you try it. And since we are very close to the holidays, here you have a good idea for cakes.

Ingredients for the sugar dough dough (approximately 20 pieces come out so you can make half a dose): 125 g lukewarm melted butter, 200 g sugar, 2 eggs, 100 g finely ground corn flour (semolina), 1 tablespoon small with minced lemon peel, 1 sachet of baking soda, 1 sachet of vanilla, 280 g of flour 00, some peeled hazelnuts, for decoration

For the service: 4 glasses of water (250ml a glass), 3 glasses of sugar and lë lemon juice.

Preparation: First we prepare the syrup: we throw the sugar and water in a pot, we mix them and we leave them on a low flame and when it boils we add the lemon juice. Let it boil on the fire for 15 minutes. Then let it cool. Prepare the biscuits: in a bowl mix the sugar with the butter, add the eggs and then the corn flour. Add the minced lemon peel, vanilla and baking soda through a sieve. Now we start to add the
flour piece by piece , so that it becomes dough that is worked by hand and does not stick. Let it rest covered with kitchen plastic for 30 minutes, at room temperature.

After 30 minutes, make dough balls as small as a walnut, place them in the oven pan coated with butter, place a hazelnut in each and bake them at 180 ° in the preheated oven for 15/20 minutes. or until we see that they have taken on color. Take them out of the oven and pour the cold syrup over them with a fork, toss over each biscuit. The next day they are ready.
