Former MP of the Socialist Party, Valentina Leskaj has said that governance is a process and the things that one party starts, the other party must finish.
According to Leskaj, Albania is still at the level of a minimalist democracy where free elections are still being discussed, and for democracy to function, political dialogue must function.
In her book, "Politics as an idea" Leskaj addresses the phenomenon of hate speech from politics. She thinks that this phenomenon does great damage to politics and above all to young people.
Excerpts from the interview for RTV Ora
Today you are a member of the Socialist Party leadership, but you have distanced yourself from politics.
Leskaj: "It has been four years since I confirmed my withdrawal from politics, I have said that I want to pave the way for young people and I do not think that politics is what takes place within political parties or only within Parliament. Civic engagement is a political commitment.
Are we witnessing that politics in Albania is seen as an instrument, as a mechanism to get rich, as a mechanism to climb the links of power, but not in the service of the citizen?
Leskaj: "I would encourage everyone to give their opinion on politics, so I think I did well to deal with politics. I do not see politics simply as an instrument. Of course it is a very important instrument, but before it is an instrument it is a concept, an idea and from this point of view we should see more how we conceive politics. "
Politics as an idea, how do your colleagues see it today?
Leskaj: "People are different and see it in different ways. Everyone has their own judgment and the more ideas discussed about politics the better it is. Our problem is that we do not discuss politics, we discuss politics more than politics as a concept.
Do ishte një mision i pamundur nëse nuk do kishim mbështetjen e ndërkombëtarëve.
A party comes to power and makes the reforms it thinks are best, due to its inability to establish a political dialogue. That's a huge cost to society. "
