"The benefits outweigh the risks," is the latest official stance. However, the EMA said it had found a link between cases of blood clots after receiving the vaccine, although they were quite rare. But no specific risk factors have been identified and the AstraZeneca product was found to be “very effective in avoiding hospitalizations for coronavirus.
Emer Cooke, Executive Director of EEMA: "The safety committee, after an in-depth analysis, came to the conclusion that cases reported with unusual blood clots after vaccination with AstraZeneca should be listed as a possible side effect."
The European Medicines Agency reports that most reported cases of thrombosis occur in women under the age of 60, up to 2 weeks after receiving the vaccine. Experts from the World Health Organization on vaccine safety will also make an additional assessment regarding the suspicions of a link between thrombosis cases and vaccination with AstraZeneca doses.
While the British regulator has recommended that people under the age of 30 get another anti-covid vaccine, after discovering in late March that 79 citizens vaccinated with AstraZeneca experienced blood clots, 19 of whom lost their lives.
